The Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s volleyball team has run their winning streak to seven games.
In a battle of the 5-1 teams, the Kodiaks scored a 2-0 weekend against the Briercrest Clippers in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference play Friday and Saturday in Caronport, Sask.
The Kodiaks earned 3-1 wins in both games to continue their winning streak and move to 7-1 on the season, two points behind the 8-1 SAIT Trojans, who have won six in a row.
Meanwhile, the Kodiaks women were swept in two straight by the Clippers and are now 2-6 on the season.
In the men’s game Friday night, Carter Hansen led the way with 20 kills and Zach Wikenheiser put up six digs in the four-set win.
On Saturday, Hansen had 24 more kills and Tony Albizzati hammered 11 to secure the sweep. Michael Hummel added 12 digs. Hansen also had three service aces.
The Kodiaks women were faced the with the task of contending with the Clippers, who are undefeated and ranked second in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association rankings.
On Friday, Kodiaks Mack Lewicki put up eight kills and five digs, while on Saturday Lewicki and Morgan Bullerwell each had five kills. Lewicki also had 11 digs and three service aces.
After his 44-kill weekend, Hansen moves into second in the ACAC in kills-per-game at 3.86. He is also second in points-per-set with 4.6.
Malcolm Fisher is sixth in digs-per-set with 2.57.
Lewicki is 15th in the conference in kills-per-set with 2.41. She is also 13th in digs-per-set with 3.15.
The Kodiaks return to the Val Matteotti Gymnasium with the Red Deer Kings and Queens coming to town Friday and Saturday.
Game times Friday are 6 p.m. for the women and 8 p.m. for the men. The women kick things off Saturday at 1 p.m. with the men to follow at 3 p.m.
