The Lethbridge midget AAA Hurricanes have hit the .500 mark thanks to a 2-0 weekend homestand.
The Canes defeated the Sherwood Park Ennis Kings 4-3 at the Logan Boulet Arena Saturday afternoon and doubled the Calgary Northstars 4-2 Sunday in Alberta Midget Hockey League action.
The wins improve the Hurricanes to 7-7-1 and move them into fourth place in the AMHL Chrysler Division.
On Saturday the Hurricanes got first period goals from Easton Weasel Head, Nolan Price and Joel Mabin and a third-period marker from Rylen Roersma, while goaltender Marek Andres stopped 23 shots.
Derrien Tonin scored twice in Sunday’s win. Brogan Booth and affiliated player Bill Houenagnon scored for Lethbridge.
Andres made 38 saves in the win.
The Hurricanes host the Fort Saskatchewan Boston Pizza Rangers Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
In Alberta Minor Midget Hockey League play, the Lethbridge Headwater Hurricanes lost 4-2 to the AC Avalanche Saturday, but finished off six road games in a row with a 10-2 win over the Calgary CRAA Gold Sunday.
The weekend split puts the Hurricanes (10-3-3) in a tie for second place in the AMMHL South Division with the Avalanche.
Zachary Rajcic and Caden Heins scored for the Hurricanes in Saturday’s loss. Canes goaltender Kaiden Fulton made 17 saves.
Lethbridge scored five third-period goals in Sunday’s win in Calgary.
Vann Yuhas and Peyton Twigg each scored twice and added two assists for the Hurricanes.
Nolan Fomradas, Grady Sterling-Ponech, Braigh LeGrandeur, Carter Cook, Rajcic and Jamieson Franz added singles for the Canes.
Nixon Ordway kicked out 20 shots in the win.
The Hurricanes return home Saturday at 3 p.m. when the Calgary CBHA Rangers visit the Logan Boulet Arena.
Lethbridge is back at the Logan Boulet Arena at 11:45 a.m. Sunday to play the Calgary NWCAA Stampeders.
The Lethbridge Val Matteotti bantam AAA Golden Hawks were 2-0 on the road in Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League action last weekend.
The Golden Hawks downed the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers 6-3 Saturday and edged the PAC Saints 3-2 Sunday to move to 4-10-0.
Ty Fraser paced Lethbridge with three goals in Saturday’s win in Fort Saskatchewan, while Ben Adserballe scored twice. Caden Still added the other Golden Hawks goal.
Brenner Fyfe faced 31 shots in the win.
On Sunday, Fraser added two more for a five-goal weekend and Aidyn Law and Kade Duell added singles.
Lethbridge goaltender Thomas MacLean faced 32 shots.
The Golden Hawks have a mid-week game Wednesday when they host the Medicine Hat SEAC Tigers at 6:30 p.m. at Nicholas Sheran Arena.
