The LCI Rams boys volleyball team didn’t have to go far to earn a provincial medal last weekend.
The Rams headed down the road to Magrath for the Alberta Schools Athletic Association 3A boys provincials, ultimately bringing a bronze medal back to Lethbridge.
The Rams beat St. Joseph 25-23 and 25-19 in the bronze medal game Saturday afternoon at the Tom Karren Gym in Magrath.
LCI, who went 4-1 in the round-robin, lost 2-0 in the semifinal to eventual gold medallist Barrhead.
The host Zeniths advanced to the quarter-final, but were defeated 2-0 by Sherwood Park Strathcona Christian. They were also 4-1 in the round-robin.
The Cardston Cougars were the other South Zone representative, going 1-4.
At the girls 2A provincials in Three Hills two South Zone teams medalled.
The Magrath Pandas advanced to the gold medal game Saturday night, but were defeated 2-0 by Calgary Rundle College to settle for silver.
The Pandas beat fellow South Zone team Vauxhall 2-1 in the semifinals.
Vauxhall went on to earn the bronze medal courtesy a 2-0 win over St. Augustine.
The Chinook Coyotes boys and girls teams headed to Edmonton for the 4A provincials.
The Coyotes boys placed 10th, beating Grande Prairie Charles Spencer 2-0 in their first game Saturday, but losing 2-0 to Notre Dame in the ninth-place game later in the day.
The Chinook girls were 12th, losing a close 2-1 match to Chestermere Saturday morning and losing another 2-1 game to Salisbury in the afternoon.
Both Coyotes teams were 2-1 in the round-robin.
William Aberhart won 4A boys gold medal, while Western Canada was the 4A girls provincial champ.
At the 1A provincials in Bow Island, the Foremost Forettes girls took fourth place, losing 2-1 to Central Alberta Christian High School.
Foremost lost to Acme 2-1 in the semifinal. Foremost went 2-2 in round-robin.
The Senator Gershaw Gators girls were 1-3 in the round-robin.
On the boys side, Senator Gershaw were 2-2, losing 2-0 in the quarter-finals to St. Michaels.
Central Alberta Christian High School won the boys gold medal. Acme took home gold on the girls side.
A pair of Medicine Hat teams were in St. Paul for the girls 3A provincials.
Medicine Hat Crescent Heights lost 2-1 in the quarter-final to Springbank Community.
Medicine Hat Monsignor McCoy was 2-3 to miss the playoff round.
Springbank Community won this year’s 3A provincial title.
