The Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s volleyball team got back on the winning track heading into the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference break.
Wrapping up the first semester of ACAC play on the weekend, the Kodiaks downed the Ambrose Lions 3-0 Friday night at the Val Matteotti Gymnasium and completed the sweep with a five-set 3-2 win Saturday night in Calgary.
The wins put the Kodiaks at 10-2 heading into the break following a 3-1 setback to the Red Deer College Kings Nov. 23 in Red Deer.
On the women’s side, the Kodiaks are 2-10 after a pair of losses to the Lions. The Kodiaks were defeated 3-0 Friday and 3-1 Saturday.
In the men’s game Saturday night, the Kodiaks had to claw back after dropping the first two sets 25-18 and 25-19.
Lethbridge regrouped with a 25-20 win in the third set and forced a fifth set with a 25-19 win.
The Kodiaks completed the comeback with a 15-9 win in the fifth set as Carter Hansen led the way with 25 kills. Quinn Buchanan added eight kills.
Zach Wikenheiser had 10 digs.
In Friday’s home win, the Kodiaks rolled off straight set wins as Nolan Moes hammered eight kills and Hansen and Buchanan had seven each. Hansen also had eight digs.
Morgan Bullerwell, Mack Lewicki and Maile Funa each had five kills for the Kodiaks women in Saturday’s loss in Calgary.
Lewicki had 11 digs.
On Friday, the Kodiaks managed a 25-18 second-set win to tie it at 1-1, but the Lions won the next two to clinch the win.
Lewicki had 11 kills and 13 digs for the Kodiaks in the women’s game. Sarah Hazen had 14 digs and Jamie Brown added 10.
The Kodiaks open the second half of their ACAC schedule Jan. 10-11 in Red Deer.
Their first home games of the second semester are Jan. 17-18 against the Olds Broncos.
