Lightning game delayed
The Lethbridge Lightning’s Ranchland Hockey League game against the Nanton Palominos was cancelled late in the first period Friday night in Nanton.
The teams had played about 13 minutes with the Lightning about to go on their first power play when the referees were made aware of a hole in the ice behind the Nanton net.
Officials conferred with arena staff who determined the ice was irreparable and for the safety of players the game would have to be cancelled.
There has been no decision yet as to what will happen with the game.
The game was a clash of the first-place teams with the 4-0-0-1 Lightning one point up on the 4-0-0-0 Palominos.
The Lightning are home for a pair of games this weekend.
They host the Fort Macleod Mustangs Friday and the Kainai Braves Saturday. Both games are at 8:30 p.m. at Nicholas Sheran Arena.
