Cardston Cougars open basketball season with victory

Cardston Cougars had six players in double figures as they opened the Southern Alberta 4A Boys Basketball League season with a 110-54 victory over the Winston Churchill Bulldogs on Tuesday.

Isaac Atwood and Rhett Lewis led the Cougars with 17 points apiece while Corom Gregson added 16, Kody Janisko 15 and Drasyn Card and Graedon Woodward 13 apiece.

Polo Los Banes replied with 15 points for the Bulldogs and Tyreese Russell added 10.

In junior varsity play, Cardston downed Churchill 88-57 as Mitch Francis hit for 19 points and Hayden Weasel Head added 18. Mitch Nelson and Hyrum Scott chipped in with 15 and 12 respectively.

Robby Wist led all scorers with 21 points for Churchill and Phillippe Martin added 12.

In other action, Chinook Coyotes rolled to a 78-54 win over the Catholic Central Cougars. Jayden Gurney led the way with 20 points while Brenden Sarmieto and Jarom Court added 17 and 12 respectively. Aiden Doyle hit for 11.

Raphael Batingal replied with 15 points for the Cougars.

CCH topped Chinook 79-52 in the JV contest as Derek Trapp and Sebastian Plarisan scored 14 points apiece in the win, followed by Zach Gray and David Dahoe with 12 and 11 respectively.
