The Lethbridge Southern Express midget female hockey team dropped an overtime decision to the Calgary Fire Red Saturday.

In a back-and-forth game, the teams pushed it to extra time before Calgary netted the winner at 2:36.

The Fire Red opened a 1-0 lead early, but the Southern Express grabbed a 2-1 lead before the end of the period.

Calgary tied it 2-2 on a power-play goal in the second but Lethbridge’s Kendal Pierson scored on a breakaway to put the Southern Express back up 3-2.

The Fire Red tied the game five minutes into the third to force overtime.

A little over two minutes into the extra session a Fire Red shot from the point found its way past screened Southern Express goaltender Devyn Amundson for the game winner.

Madison King and Megan Draffin added the other Lethbridge goals.

Amundson kicked out 23 of 27 shots.

The Southern Express are next in action Saturday when they travel to Airdrie to face the Lightning and take on the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs Sunday in a battle for second place in the South.
