The Coaldale Copperheads have moved up one spot in the Heritage Junior Hockey League South Division standings.
The Copperheads downed the Strathmore Wheatlands Kings Saturday night at the Coaldale Sportsplex and then capped off an undefeated weekend with a 4-2 win in Sylvan Lake over the Wranglers Sunday night.
The wins move the Copperheads to 16-8-1 and put them one point up on the Medicine Hat Cubs (15-5-2) for second place in the HJHL Southern Division.
On Saturday night, Coaldale scored three goals in the second and third periods to post the win as Isaac Benoit scored twice and added two assists.
Brandyn Howg and Jayden Bexte each had two goals and an assist the Copperheads, while Ty Abbott added the other Coaldale marker.
Ethan Klemen added four assists and Copperheads goaltender Broc Merkl stopped 38 of 40 shots.
Kole Fujita led Coaldale in Sunday’s win in Sylvan Lake with two goals and an assist. Howg had a goal and an assist and Klemen scored the other Copperhead goal.
Ethan Barrows made 32 saves in the win.
The Copperheads hit the road Friday to Okotoks to take on the league-leading Bisons (24-1-0) at 8 p.m. and return to the Coaldale Sportsplex Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. when the Cubs come to town.
