Laker girls get past the Griffins

The Stirling Lakers girls earned a home win in Deep South Basketball Conference play Wednesday night.

Courtney McKee led the Lakers with 21 points as Stirling defeated the Winston Churchill Griffins 58-46.

Hillary Shockey added 12 points and Talia Oviatt chipped in with nine for Stirling.

Cayla Stimson and Nataeya Black Water had 14 and 11 points, respectively, for the Griffins.

In the junior varsity game Stirling won 68-45.

Leading the Lakers was McKee with 29 points, while Reese Gurney and Tycee Nelson each had 12.

Phoenix Clarke topped Winston Churchill scorers with 17 points.

In boys and girls junior varsity play Wednesday the Picture Butte High School Sugar Kings boys beat the Coaldale Kate Andrews Pride 82-60 in Picture Butte as Frankie Enns paced the Sugar Kings with 32 points.

Tyson Johnson added 16 points for Picture Butte and Jakie Enns hit for 16.

Eli Eyding drained 20 points for the Pride. Blake Harris scored 11.

In the girls game the Sugar Queens won a close 47-43 decision over the Pride.

Laryette Kellett had 11 points for Picture Butte and Montserrat Cervera added 10.

For the Pride, Kaitlyn Traber scored nine points and Gwen Newberry hit for eight.
