Midget Hurricanes earn draws

The Lethbridge midget AAA Hurricanes headed into the Christmas break with a pair of ties.

The Canes skated to a 4-4 deadlock with the St. Albert Nektar Raiders Saturday in St. Albert and wrapped up the weekend with a 3-3 tie with the Edmonton CAC Gregg Distributors Sunday in Alberta Midget Hockey League play.

The ties put the Hurricanes at 12-8-3 and in fourth place in the Chrysler Division.

Facing the league-leading Raiders Saturday, the Hurricanes netted four second-period goals as Rylan Bruns scored twice and Brogan Booth and Joel Mabin added the others.

Colby Garner and Brody Tallman each had two assists, while goaltender Ty Young stopped 36 shots.

On Sunday, Bruns, Mabin and Garner scored for the Hurricanes.

Marek Andres made 31 saves for Lethbridge.

The Hurricanes are back home Jan. 4 when the Edmonton SSAC Boston Pizza Athletics pay a visit to the Logan Boulet Arena at 3 p.m.

In Alberta Minor Midget Hockey League play, the Lethbridge Headwater Hurricanes defeated the Medicine Hat SEAC Tigers 3-2 Saturday at Logan Boulet Arena as Vann Yuhas scored the game-winner with 2:34 remaining.

Peyton Twigg and Sheldon Sawyer scored the other Lethbridge goals and Caden Heins added two assists.

Kaiden Fulton stopped 20 shots in the win.

The Hurricanes first game of the New Year is Jan. 4 and 5 in Calgary against the Calgary CNHA Blazers and the CBHA Rangers respectively.

Their first home game is Jan. 18 when they host the Edmonton SSAC United Cycle Bulldogs at 4:45 p.m. at the Logan Boulet Arena.

The Lethbridge Val Matteotti bantam AAA Golden Hawks defeated the Okotoks Oilers 5-2 in Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League play Saturday in Okotoks.

The win improves the Golden Hawks to 6-14-0, good for fourth place in the Ram South Division.

Kade Duell scored twice for Lethbridge and Layne Loomer, Aidyn Law and Ben Adserballe added singles.

Law added an assist for a two-point afternoon and Kendal Davidson had three assists.

Thomas MacLean made 37 assists in the win.

The Golden Hawks return to action in 2020 Jan. 4 in Calgary against the Bisons.

The Hawks are home Jan. 5 when they host the Calgary Flames at noon at Nicholas Sheran Arena.

In South Central Alberta Hockey League play Saturday the Lethbridge midget AA Hurricanes were defeated 6-1 by the Medicine Hat Jasper Homes Hounds in Medicine Hat and are 5-9-3 and in fourth place in the Southern Conference.

Easton Thomas scored for Lethbridge in the loss.

Goaltender Jesse Schindel made 34 saves in the loss.

The Hurricanes have a pair of home games Jan. 3 and 4.

They take on the Strathmore Wheatland Chiefs at 7 p.m. At Henderson Arena and the Calgary NWCAA Bruins at 7:15 p.m. also at Henderson Arena.
