Local speed skaters clock in for Alberta Winter Games

The 2020 Alberta Winter Games Zone 1 team will boast plenty of local speed skating talent.

Nine speed skaters from the Lethbridge Speed Skating Association have been named to the Zone 1 team for this year’s games hosted in Airdrie Feb. 14-17.

Making the Zone 1 team in the Female Train (T2T 1) 11-12 year old are Marie Cormier and Denise Wesseling, while Zak Adelman makes the Training to Train 11-12 year old male team.

On the female Training to Train 13-14 year old team, Mikka Eaves and Abi Reimer earned their spots.

Braeden Kremenik, Jonathan MacIntosh, Riley Vanderburgh and Mitchell Wesseling did the same for the male Training to Train 13-14 year old squad.

The Speed Skating event at AWG will be long track speed skating and will be held at the Olympic Oval at the University of Calgary.

The Lethbridge skaters qualified based on times skated this season in short track events.

The Alberta Winter Games provide an opportunity to celebrate young athletes and provide them with a venue to compete and reach their athletic potential.

The Alberta Winter Games provides a competitive opportunity for provincial level athletes aged 11-17 to compete in a multi sports Games.
