Horns ringette going for gold

WATERLOO, ONT.

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns have had their first loss at the University Challenge Cup in Waterloo, Ont, but will still go for gold.

In Day 4 of the national tournament, the Horns lost 4-3 to the Calgary Dinos in their first game Monday before rebounding with an 8-1 win over Waterloo to sit at 7-1.

That puts the Pronghorns in the gold medal game today against Brock University.

Alyssa Hall scored twice and Perri Mazurkewich added one in the loss to the Dinos. Goaltender Mackenzie Cameron faced 27 shots.

Against Waterloo, Katie Welsh, Rylie Hart and Alyssa Hall each scored twice and Ashlyn Dey and Jena Heal scored one each. Anna Free made 26 saves.

On Sunday, the Horns beat the University of Ottawa 4-2 and edged the University of Nepissing 2-1.

Against Ottawa, Alyssa Hall, Sarah Hall, Hart and Ali Fournier scored, while Cameron saved 15 shots.

Welsh and Leah Gates scored for Lethbridge in the win over Nepissing.

Free faced 26 shots on net.
