The Lethbridge Lightning rang in the new year with a high-scoring win.
In their only game of the weekend, the Lightning downed the Kainai Chiefs 11-5 in Ranchland Hockey League play Saturday night in Standoff.
The win moves the Lightning to 8-1-0-1 to remain in first place in the league, five points ahead of the 6-1-0-0 Nanton Palominos and 6-5-0-0 Fort Macleod Mustangs.
Shay Wirll and James Price each scored three goals for the Lightning, while Stephan Freter added a pair.
Leo Lecourciere, Nick Bohle and Cam Hurt scored once each.
The Lightning are back on the road Saturday when they head to Nanton to battle the Palominos at 8:30 p.m.
The team will also be holding a meeting Jan. 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the board room at Nicholas Sheran Arena for those interested in helping out when the Lightning host provincials at the end of March.
