Lightning split weekend games

The Lethbridge Lightning went 1-1 on weekend play and the race for top spot in the Ranchland Hockey League just got tighter.

The Lightning, who were defeated 7-2 by the Nanton Palominos Friday night in Nanton, came back blazing the next night in Brocket with a 14-8 over the Piikani Broncs.

The weekend split puts the Lightning at 9-4-0-1 and in third place, one point behind the Siksika Buffaloes (9-3-0-2) and three points back of the 11-2-0-0 Palominos.

On Friday in Nanton, Shay Wirll and Justice Taylor scored for the Lightning.

Ashton Zintel had four goals for Lethbridge in Saturday’s win. Dayn Opel, Brady Matson, Cole Matson, Shay Wirll, Dune Wald, Ben Bohle, Randy Teeple and Laramie Kostelansky also scored for Lethbridge.

The Lightning are back home Saturday when they host Piikani at 8:30 p.m. at Nicholas Sheran Arena.
