A pair of track athletes have leapt and thrown their way into the University of Lethbridge Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week honours.
Following some medal-laden performances at the Canada West Championships last weekend in Saskatoon, Sandra Latrace and Andreas Troschke have earned this week’s female and male awards.
A fourth-year veteran, Latrace upped her Canada West medal total to nine with two more conference medals last weekend.
She opened the meet with her fourth consecutive Canada West gold medal in the long jump with a leap of 5.97 metres and the product of Brooks finished the Canada West meet with a bronze medal in the 60-metre dash. Latrace now has five gold, two silver and two bronze Canada West medals in four seasons.
Troschke found his way to the Canada West podium on his third attempt.
After placing fourth in the past two championships, the weight thrower from Olds came up with the longest throw of 17.47 metres for his first Canada West gold medal.
Latrace and Troschke now get ready for the U SPORTS Championships March 5-7 at the University of Alberta.
Latrace will enter the U SPORTS Championships as the top seed in long jump and ranked fifth in the 60m sprint and Troschke will come in ranked second behind a thrower from Laval.
