Golden Hawks winless to start season

The Lethbridge Val Matteotti U15AAA Golden Hawks posted a tie and a loss in their Alberta Elite Hockey League season openers last weekend.

The Golden Hawks and the Medicine Hat South East Tigers played to a 3-3 tie Saturday afternoon at Nicholas Sheran Arena before the Tigers won the rematch 4-1 Sunday in Medicine Hat as Lethbridge starts the season 0-1-1.

On Sunday, Conner Chapman opened the scoring for the Golden Hawks, but four unanswered Tigers goals from Chance Loke, Ryan Miller, Noah Deroiun and Sam Hynes earned Medicine Hat the win.

Kahil Wright made 26 saves for the Golden Hawks.

On Saturday, Chapman scored twice and Kade Duell added the other Golden Hawks marker.

Lethbridge captain Nathan Hawkins had two assists.

Golden Hawks goaltender Preston Walker stopped 36 of 39 shots.

Lethbridge and Medicine Hat complete their three-game set Saturday in Medicine Hat.

The Golden Hawks next home game is Nov. 8 when they host the Okotoks Oilers at 2:45 p.m. at Nicholas Sheran Arena.
