Bulls clip Gulls in extra innings

The Lethbridge Bulls  hung on to beat the  Sylvan Lake Gulls 9-8 in 10 innings on Wednesday night to kick off their six game road trip.

Luke Wheatley scored the winning run from second base on a two-out single by Dalen Blanchard  in the 10th inning.

The Gulls erased an 8-4 deficit in the ninth inning to tie the score  at eight and sent the game to extra innings.

The rally started with Jaden Flores hitting a one-out double to cash in Bryce Turner to make the score 8-5 and advance Junior Garcia to third base.

Ayden Makarus was up to bat after Flores and hit a single to bring in Garcia to bring Sylvan Lake to within two runs of the Bulls.

Flores then scored on a Jimmy Pelletier ground out to bring the home team within a run.

Markarus tied the game on a Brock Tijerina single to send the game to extra innings.

The Bulls wasted no time getting on the board first as they got out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

Carter Claerhout hit a one out, two-run home run to give the Bulls a 2-0 lead, while Steven Andrachick would later score from third on an error by the Gulls catcher.

Jalen Ryan hit a single as the second batter up to the plate in the second inning, before stealing second  base while Bernie Socarras was up at the dish, and then scored on a Socarras single to give the Bulls a 4-0 lead.

Socarras would later score on an Andrachick single to give Lethbridge a 5-0 lead.

Garcia got the Gulls on the board in the bottom of the second inning when he scored from third base on a balk by Bulls pitcher Jason Berglund.

The Gulls cut into the Bulls lead more as they scored two more runs to make the score 5-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Turner first hit a one-out single to score Brooks Bachman from second base and that ended Berglund’s night.

Noah Konings then strutted to home plate after Bryce Hampton was walked with the bases loaded to score the Gulls third run.

Lee Matsuzaki scored on a fielder’s choice by Drew Bufford to double the Bulls lead to 6-3 in the seventh inning.

Next up to bat was Brennan McTavish, who with two base runners on, hit a single to score Claerhout and give Lethbridge a 7-3 lead.

The Gulls Turner hit a home run to lead off  the bottom of the seventh to get Sylvan Lake’s fourth run of the game.

McTavish hit a home run in the ninth inning to give the Bulls an 8-4 lead.

Claerhout had two hits on four plate appearances , two runs and two RBIs (runs batted in) and McTavish had three hits on five trips to the plate, a run and two RBIs for the Bulls.

Jacob Hageman was the winning pitcher for the Bulls after pitching an inning, striking out two and allowing a hit.

The Bulls(7-4) begin a four-game series tonight in Fort McMurray  (3-8)against the Giants.
