VANCOUVER – The Vancouver Canucks have signed left-winger Jake DeBrusk to a seven-year deal.

The team announced the contract as the NHL’s free agency period opened Monday, saying it carries an annual-average value of US$5.5 million.

The 27-year-old DeBrusk had 40 points (19 goals, 21 assists) in 80 games for the Boston Bruins last season, then chipped in another five goals and six helpers in 13 playoff appearances.

Originally picked 14th overall by Boston in the 2015 draft, the six-foot-one, 198-pound forward has spent all seven seasons of his NHL career with the Bruins, putting up 138 goals and 128 assists across 465 regular-season games.

DeBrusk is the son of former NHLer and current hockey analyst Louie DeBrusk.

The Canucks made a series of signings ahead of free agency, inking pending unrestricted free agents Tyler Myers, Dakota Joshua and Teddy Blueger to new deals.
