U.S. downs Canada 10-7 in first ever world women’s box lacrosse final

UTICA, N.Y. – Livy Rosenzweig led the way with three goals and two assists as the United States won the first ever world women’s box lacrosse championship with a 10-7 win over Canada on Sunday.

The Canadians led 4-3 after three quarters before the Americans surged to victory behind an explosive fourth frame.

Rosenzweig had three goals and an assist in the fourth.

Erica Evans led Canada with a goal and four assists. Dacia Cordingley, Dana Dobbie, Megan Kinna, Harlow Steele, Brooklyn Walker-Welch and Katie de Snoo also scored for the Canadians. Kayla Kondo made 35 saves.

Erin Bakes had two goals and an assist for the U.S., Ally Kennedy scored twice and Riley Ewing, Ally Mastroianni and Charlotte North had the other goals. Ingrid Boyum stopped 41 shots.

Box lacrosse will return to the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028 after the sport’s previous appearances in 1904 in St. Louis and 1908 in London.

Canada and the U.S. were scheduled to meet in the men’s final later Sunday.
