Dodgers beat Blue Jays 5-4 in 11 innings to win World Series

TORONTO — The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 in Game 7 to successfully defend their World Series title.

Will Smith’s solo homer in the 11th inning off Shane Bieber was the difference.

With runners on the corners in the bottom half of the frame, Alejandro Kirk grounded into a double-play to end the game.

The Blue Jays led 4-3 in the ninth but Miguel Rojas hit a game-tying solo shot off Jeff Hoffman to silence the sellout crowd at Rogers Centre.

Bo Bichette hit a three-run homer for Toronto in the third inning. The Blue Jays loaded the bases in the ninth but Andy Pages made a running catch against the wall on a drive by Ernie Clement.

Toronto hasn’t won the Fall Classic since 1993.
