Ontario NDP promises better nurse-patient ratios, plans to hire 15,000 nurses

By Canadian Press on February 10, 2025.

TORONTO — Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles says if her party forms government she would establish safe nurse-to-patient ratios so patients get more care and nurses don’t burn out.

Both Stiles and Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie are trying to keep the focus on the Ontario election campaign trail today on health care.

Stiles says the NDP would also hire at least 15,000 nurses over three years at a cost of $1.5 billion.

She also says hundreds of millions of dollars that go to for-profit temporary health-care staffing agencies should be redirected to the public system.

Progressive Conservative Leader Doug Ford will be in Oakville, where he is scheduled to make an announcement and meet with workers at the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 793.

Ontario’s snap election will be held on Feb. 27.
