The Lethbridge Hurricanes fought back from 3-0 nothing down going into the second period to beat the Regina Pats 6-5 in overtime on Friday night at VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
Shane Smith scored the winner 1:19 into overtime from Brayden Edwards and Tristen Doyle.
“The morale was there’s a lot of hockey left ,40 minutes left, and like I said good teams find a way to win,” said Canes forward Anthony Wilson, who netted two goals against his old team, when asked about what the message was after a slow first period.
“We kept our composure, and just played simple, and tilted the ice and things kind of fell in our hand.”
Canes assistant coach Ryan Aasman thinks a surprise this year has been the team’s ability to find ways to win in third periods.
“I don’t think we were too nervous about our group trying to find a way to score or find a way to win,” said Aasman.
“We just had to do the hard way and I thought there was lots of guys that jumped on board as the game went.”

The Pats got the board 10:21 into the first period when Cohen Klassen’s wrist shot through a crowd from the high slot beat Koen Cleaver for his fifth goal of the year from Cameron Kuzma and Brayden Smith.
A Keets Fawcett shot bounced off of Zach Pantelakis into the net on the powerplay at the 16:05 mark of the first period
Julien Maze also assisted on Pantelakis 11th goal of the year.
Ashton Brown slid the puck in for his third of the season to give the Pats a 3-0 lead at the 13:16 mark of the second period.

Anthony Wilson went down his off wing and wristed it top shelf to get the Canes on the board at 13:26 of the middle frame from Logan McCutcheon and Vojtech Port.
Brayden Edwards tapped in a pass from Leo Braillard on the powerplay 15:47 into the second period to get the Canes to within a goal.
Brayden Yager also assisted on Edwards 22nd goal of the year.
Fawcett whacked in a rebound from Braxton Whitehead and Jace Egland at 18:03 of the second period to give the Pats a 4-2 lead.
Wilson backhanded in his second of the night against his old team with just over a minute to go in the second period from Kash Andresen and Trae Johnson.
Kooper Gizowski tied the game at four with his ninth of the season from Yager at 8:28 of the third period.
Klassen scored 16:33 into the third period from McNutt and Matt Paranych to give the Pats a 5-4 lead.
The Canes did not go away as Braillard got the crowd going when he scored with six seconds to go in the contest to send the game to overtime.

The Canes outshot Regina 34-23 in the game
The Canes hit the road to play Edmonton tonight and Medicine Hat on Monday afternoon.
