U of L women sweep Wesmen

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns women’s basketball team ended their regular season with a 10-10 record after sweeping the University of Winnipeg Wesmen on home court over the weekend.

The Horns opened with a dominant 70-47 win on Friday night.

Courtney McKee led U of L’s attack with 25 points, while the team made just over 36 per cent of their field goals, 15 per cent of their three-point attempts and 74 per cent of their free throws and 38 of 51 rebounds were on the defensive side.

U of L women won 79-64 on Saturday.

McKee had 25 points and Kyra Collier was close behind with 22 points for U of L.

The women made over 37 per cent of their field goals, 40 per cent of their three point shots, and over 65 per cent of their free throws and had 58 rebounds, in which 41 were on the defensive side of the ball.

The Horn women’s head to the University of Alberta to begin their playoffs against the University of Victoria in a play-in game on Friday.

The Horn men’s team suffered two losses to U of W to end their regular season.

U of L loss 101-78 on Friday.

Angelo Mbituyimana drained 19 points in the loss, while the team shot 41.3 per cent in field goals, 21 per cent in three point shots and 67 per cent from the free throw line.

 The men then ended their season with a tough 97-88 overtime loss on Saturday.

U of W went on 15-6 run in overtime to win, after U of L outscored them 21-17 into the fourth quarter to send the game to extra time.

Mbituyimana drained 25 points and the Horns made 46.4 per cent of the field goals, 27.3 per cent of their three-point attempts and went 78.3 per cent from the free-throw line.

Of the 34 rebounds, 25 were on the defensive side of the ball.

The Horn men (11-9) open up their playoffs with a play-in game on Friday against the University of Fraser Valley out at the University of Victoria.
