Sending Canadian troops to Ukraine ‘on the table’ under possible peace deal: Trudeau

By Canadian Press on February 24, 2025.

KYIV — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is not ruling out sending Canadian troops to Ukraine as part of a possible peace deal.

Trudeau is in Kyiv with a dozen other world leaders to mark the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

He began the day announcing that Canada will provide $5 billion in aid to Ukraine using funds from seized Russian assets.

When asked at a news conference whether Canada is willing to send troops to help maintain security in Ukraine, Trudeau said Canada will be involved in some way and that “everything is on the table.”

Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly said last week that Canada wanted to discuss “more Canadians being involved in protecting Ukraine.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is thanking Canada for its support to date, particularly training soldiers and supplying optical parts for drones.
