The Prairie Baseball Academy Dawgs varsity team open up their Canadian College Baseball conference season today with many strengths they hope to use to their advantage this season
“I think we’ve got some real strong starting pitching and some good guys at the back end of our bullpen,” said Todd Hubka, PBA head coach
“I do really like our offence. We got some guys that can run in the line-up.”
Hubka sees runs be generated through opportune hits being put in play and combining that with their speed.
The Dawgs will look to some freshmen infielders to be key to their success.
“They play a pretty key role in us being able to win some games here,” said Hubka.
Time management will be important for those players.
“We gotta make sure that we’re not killing these guys with the amount that they’re gonna play this year, and make sure that we’re taking care of them,” said Hubka.
He hope his top two starters in Jack Hudson and Jake Maniago lead the way when they’re out there.
“Just make a strong point that hey we’re gonna come after you and you’re gonna have to play well to beat us,” said Hubka
Hubka wants to see growth in his team every day.
“I’ve noticed on the road so far that this is a tight-knit group,” said Hubka.
“It seems like everyone gets along and as long as we just keep getting a little better every day I think we’re gonna be fine.”
PBA begins a four-game weekend set at the Vancouver Island University Mariners today.
