OTTAWA — Canadians got a break on inflation in March even without a tax holiday as Statistics Canada says the pace of price increases slowed last month.
The agency says the annual inflation rate was 2.3 per cent in the month, down from 2.6 per cent in February.
StatCan says a drop in the price of gas helped ease prices for motorists in March.
The agency also says Canadians were paying 12 per cent less on airfare last month compared with a year earlier.
StatCan says the easing in flight costs came alongside a drop in air travel to the United States last month.
March marked a full month without the federal government’s temporary tax break in effect, which StatCan says helped keep inflation a bit higher.
