MONTREAL — McGill University has obtained a 10-day court order against a pro-Palestinian student group forbidding protests on campus.
A Quebec Superior Court judge granted the injunction Tuesday against Students for Palestinian Honour and Resistance.
Group members are not permitted to block or obstruct McGill entrances; engage in protests within five metres of any McGill building; or obstruct any academic activities including courses and exams.
McGill sought the court order after a three-day student strike earlier this month that led to clashes, blockades, and vandalism on the downtown campus.
The protests forced the university to cancel classes, and the school sought the injunction during part of the final exam period.
McGill University president Deep Saini said in a statement the court found that the school has a “clear right” to protect its property and conduct activities without obstruction.
