Lethbridge Hurricanes overage forward Brayden Edwards thought it was the best thing for his career to get traded here from the Winnipeg Ice early in the 2021-2022 season as he reflected on his now ended WHL career.
“They (the Canes) had a belief in me since day one, (and) give me lots of opportunity (and) really let me develop as a player, so I’m really thankful for that, ” said Edwards.
Edwards had the opportunity to build some chemistry as a part of potent line with Logan Wormald and Miguel Marques over the last couple of seasons.
“They’re special guys on and off the ice, we have a good friendship (and) a good bond that we’ve built,” said Edwards.
Edwards couldn’t nail down just one memory he had with the team.
“Just all the friendships you make and all the memories you make along the way,” said Edwards.
Edwards was asked about how he will remember Lethbridge 20 years down the road.
“Just the city as a whole, they’re really supportive,” said Edwards.
“The fans are awesome here, I don’t know if there’s really any place like it in the WHL.”
Edwards talked about how head coach Bill Peters helped him as a player over the last couple of years.
“Just the little tips and tricks ,” said Edwards.
“He’s always there doing video with us, trying to make us better (in) anyway possible and then also he’s just a great guy in general.”
“Just being able to take some of the things I’ve learned and you reflect on it, and then share with some of the younger guys”, said Edwards, on his approached being a leader this past season.
Edwards is still trying to figure his future out but his goal is to play professional hockey somewhere.
“Those are phenomenal men, and I respect those two ,and think about them very highly and really love those guys,” said Canes Captain Noah Chadwick, on both outgoing players in Edwards and Logan McCutcheon.
Chadwick saw them as some of the hardest working players that brought an upbeat and positive vibe.
Peters thought Edwards flourished in his time as a Cane.
“A real legit top six centre on any team in the league, and a hard guy to play against and a difference maker,” said Peters .
Edwards collected 202 regular season points (82 goals, 120 assists) in 247 games with the club and added another 24 points in 28 playoff games
