Canada Post, union set to meet on Sunday as overtime ban stretches on

By Canadian Press on May 25, 2025.

OTTAWA — Canada Post says it is set to meet with negotiators from its union today as a national ban on overtime for postal workers stretches through the weekend.

A spokesperson for the postal service says today’s meeting will be the first of the weekend.

A mediator will be on hand to work with the parties.

The meeting comes a few days after Canada Post presented its latest offers to the union, which included a hike in pay and plans to roll out a fleet of part-time workers.

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers has yet to offer a formal response to the proposals, but its request for a two-week “truce” to consider the deal was rejected by the employer.

Canada Post has warned of delays in mail service after the union issued a national ban on workers taking overtime late Thursday — stopping short of a full strike.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published May 25, 2025.

Say What . . .

Shut down Canada Post now! They are no longer viable and if they go bankrupt the taxpayer pays is will have to pay that debt! There is no hope when the unions continue strike for more pay and more benefits when they are bleeding cash.
For 2023, the Corporation recorded a loss before tax of $748 million, compared to a loss before tax of $548 million in 2022. From 2018 to 2023, Canada Post lost $3 billion before taxes.
New repayable funding from the Government of CanadaOTTAWA – The Government of Canada has informed Canada Post that it intends to make repayable funding of up to $1.034 billion available to the Corporation through the 2025-26 fiscal year.
The union knows that the taxpayer will pay their increases and will not relent!
Time shut down this money pit called a Crown Corporation and allow the private sector to take over the service!
Canada Post has lost a great deal of it is customers due to strikes, poor service and uncertainty, especially small business who cannot afford strikes or interruption of services. They need reliable service and Canada Post cannot provice this any longer!
