The Lethbridge Bulls came back to beat the Fort McMurray Giants 6-5 in the 10th inning on Thursday night at Spitz Stadium.
The Giants had scored a run in the top half of the extra inning to make the score 5-4 before the Bulls went to work in the bottom half of the inning.
Jack Kalisky first hit into a fielder’s choice to reach first base with one out and two runners on , which scored JP Spinosa , who was already on second base because of the extra inning rule which allows a runner to start there, to tie the game.
Kalisky eventually scored the winning run on a Giants shortstop error with the bases loaded.
Here is how the game went until extra innings.
The Bulls got the board first in the bottom of the second when Kalisky scored on a Stevyn Andrachick double to make the score 1-0.
Andrachick would then later score a run of his own from third as Bernie Socarras stole second base successfully on the same play.
Fort McMurray’s Matt Rhoades hit a one-out RBI (runs batted in) single, which scored Connor Raney and Braden Wilson, to tie the game 2-2 in the third inning.
It was in the next inning that Miles Murphy gave the Giants the lead when he scored on a wild pitch to make the score 3-2 while Raney was up to bat.
Raney then hit an RBI single to cash in Lucas Marciello from second base and double the Giants lead to 4-2.
A Socarras sacrifice fly in the seventh inning brought in Andrachick to bring the Bulls to within a run.
Lethbridge tied the game 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth when Socarras scored on a Jalen Ryan sacrifice fly.
Andrachick led the way for the Bulls with three hits on five plate appearances, while scoring two runs and hitting an RBI.
Socarras had two RBIS.
Relief pitcher Donovan Gamez was the winning thrower for the Bulls after pitching the ninth inning where he allowed a hit and struck out two batters.
Both teams are back at it tonight at Spitz Stadium at 7:05 p.m.
