NEDEN, Doris DORIS MARY NEDEN January 7, 1928 – May 14, 2025 After a long and full life, we say a peaceful farewell to Doris Mary Neden, at 97 years of age. Now at last reunited with her late husband, Donald Neden, she is survived by her sister-in-law Mary Neden of Edmonton, numerous nieces and nephews and by her beloved son Gregg and his wife Pat. Born in Lethbridge, Alberta, to William and Ellen Lee, she was the last of seven children, all of whom predeceased her. After the war she married Don and remained in Lethbridge until 1964 at which time the family moved to Calgary. Doris was a woman of intellect and energy and from her teens she worked beginning her career at the Lethbridge Herald eventually becoming Women’s Editor during the tenure of publisher Senator Buchanan. After the move to Calgary Doris again embarked on a career in the newspaper business including several years as the editor of the Mirrors. She then diverged from the media path to take up a position as an office administrator for Ferranti Packard. And though Doris enjoyed her working life it was her devotion to her husband and son that best defined her as she constantly put their well-being ahead of her own. Truly she embodied the words of our Saviour, “Greater love has no one than this than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” And a friend is what she was for all of her sons 67 years on this earth. From the day she first saw the little boy her and Don adopted until the last days of her life she loved and was loved by the one she called her little judge. Though she never had a daughter of her own she had three girls who she considered daughters. Judy Close and Kathryn Lee who remained close to her for her whole life and who she shared many an enjoyable moment with, often over a good meal. And like her nieces she revelled in the exploits of their three boys, Jeff, Craig and Kevin, always wishing for the best for them. Also, the family wishes to acknowledge the decades of friendship Doris shared with Mildred, the mother of Judy and Kathy, who predeceased her many years ago. It was shortly after the end of the war that the two became fast friends, on occasion ganging up on Doris’s brother Art who Mildred had married. The other daughter in her life was Pat who offered much comfort and solace to Doris as she faced the challenges which age inevitably brings. Whether it was clothes shopping or providing advice based on Pat’s years of nursing experience, the two had a relationship which was close and enduring.
Finally, Doris’ family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Hendricks and the caregivers at Sagebrush in Wetaskiwin who made her last days as comfortable as possible.
No service will be held but all are invited to the internment at Mountain View Cemetery in Lethbridge at 11am on June 24th.

Patti was born in Lethbridge, AB to James and Marion Parks, and raised by Clarence and Margaret Jorgensen in Turin, AB. A lover of the arts, Patti pursued English and Drama in University, but a move to Whitehorse in the early 70’s led to her meeting the love of her life.
