The Lethbridge Bulls got off to a good start in their Wednesday evening doubleheader against the Electric City Cactus Rats, as they thumped them 13-2 in the first game at Spitz Stadium.
“From inning one, (we) swung it well ( and) good defence,” said Ryan MacDonald Bulls head coach.
Jack Kalisky got things going for the Bulls as he hit a two-out, two-run home run in the first inning to give Lethbridge an early 2-0 lead.
Kalisky then hit another two-run home run in the third inning to give the Bulls a 4-0 lead.
Brennan McTavish continued the scoring in the same inning for the Bulls as he hit a single to score Stevyn Andrachick to give the Bulls a 5-0 lead.
Ryuichiro Uno scored on a Rudy Ruderman ground out to get the Cactus Rats on the board in the fourth inning.
The Bulls scored two more in the fifth inning when McTavish cashed in Andrachick with his groundout and Bernie Socarras stole home to make the score 7-1 Bulls.
Lethbridge blew the game wide open with five runs in the sixth inning.
Andrachick hit an RBI single to score two runs , Socarras hit an RBI single to score a run, McTavish hit a single to score two runs and Socarras scored on a wild pitch.
Ruderman hit a sacrifice fly to score a run for the Cactus Rats in their half of the sixth.
McTavish cashed in Dalen Blanchard with a fielder’s choice in the seventh inning.
 Andrachick and Carter Claerhout led the Bulls charge with three hits and three runs and McTavish had five RBIs.
Maxim Mrakovcic was the winning pitcher after going six innings, allowing two runs on six hits, striking out seven betters and walking four batters.
“Max struggled early but then he started getting ahead ,” said MacDonald.
The second game was still in progress as of deadline and both games were seven innings long.
