AUSTIE, Antonius “Tony” AUSTIE It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear sweet husband, Dad, Opa, and great-Opa, ANTONIUS “TONY” AUSTIE, of Picture Butte, AB, surrounded by family at St. Michael’s Health Centre on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the age of 93 years following a brief illness with lung cancer. He was the beloved husband of Maria “Mia” Austie.
Besides his loving wife, Mia, Tony is survived by his children: Bernard of Lethbridge; Carolyn of Gainsville, FL; Denise of Calgary; John of Coalhurst and Michelle of Calgary; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Holland.
He was predeceased by his parents, 10 brothers and sisters, and his grandson, Scott.
After the initial shock and sadness over the diagnosis, he accepted it with great dignity and grace in keeping with his unshakable positive approach to everything in his life. He had a beautiful brain and a passion for using his creativity, ingenuity and perfectionism to craft wonderful works of art out of found materials. He enjoyed biking, curling, reading and keeping his body and mind strong and sharp. He cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was a determined farmer who immigrated from Holland as a young man with Mia by his side to build a life in Canada. He taught us the importance of working hard and instilled a strong work ethic in all of us. He gave back to his church and community and will be remembered for his quirky sense of humor.
We will cherish the memories we have of him forever.
We’d like to thank the wonderful Palliative Care staff at St. Michael’s Health Centre for their exceptional care in his final weeks.

KUHL, Robert “Bob” ROBERT “BOB” KUHL 1937 ~ 2025 It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bob (Robert) Kuhl, who left us on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at the age of 87 years. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. If something was broken, we took it to him, it almost always came back fixed, sometimes with spare parts and usually a few colourful phrases delivered as the operation progressed. He was a big saver and recycler way before it became the thing to do, he could have started the crumbled tire playground business without help.
A proud member of the Foremost Elks Club and later the Sage Club, he was involved in many community fundraisers and renovations. He was on the Foremost town council for a few years but never really took to the politics of it all. Bob loved playing golf almost daily in the summer with friends on the Foremost golf course.
Bob was a self-taught carpenter who kept busy renovating and building houses in his earlier years and later made things that we found pictures of and decided he could build. He found a new hobby after he moved from Foremost to Medicine Hat and became a very accomplished self taught Intarsia woodworker. You are a very lucky person if he gave you one of his pieces.
A farmer through and through, he was very proud to receive the one-hundred-year certificate for the family farm, south of Etzikom, it is where his legacy will forever live on.
He had a great love for speed, be it in the family car, the old farm Subaru or the combine. A favourite family memory is of him yelling at whomever was driving the grain truck and later the grain cart, “Go Faster – Ya Gotta Keep Up!”
He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years Myrna, daughter Debra, granddaughter Daryl (Nathan), great grandchildren Jagger and Harlow, grandson Spencer. His special canine buddies, Gilbert, Saddie and Doug.
He was predeceased by his parents Herb and Helen Kuhl and his son Darrel.
In place of a formal service, we invite you to crack open a Kokanee or Pilsner, share a memory and raise a glass in his honour. Cremation has been entrusted to the Pattison Funeral Home and Crematorium.
