The Alberta government is creating more classroom space by adding 62 pre-made units to manage growing student numbers.
The investment in the modular units will cost $50 million, part of a $100 million commitment to put in 109 new modular classrooms in schools across Alberta which have a total about about 826,000 students.
The $50 million investment includes the classrooms plus three washroom units and the relocation of four units. Earlier this year, the government bought 47 classrooms, three washroom units and relocated 19 units.
The Lethbridge School Division will be getting one unit from that investment. It is the only area school division listed by the government among recipients. As of Tuesday, The Herald has yet to hear from LSD where the unit will be located.

schools need not be so brick and mortar intense. they are expensive to build and to maintain based on current models.
I agree, biff. Why not change to a model whereby, for example, “new schools” consist of a permanent central hub, like a gymnasium and smaller meeting rooms with modular classrooms added OR taken away as demographics change in the neighbourhood. This way, as a neighbourhood transitions, the base facility can continue to be used by the community for other kinds of activities until school needs arise once more. Of course this is merely the skeleton structure of an idea needing fleshing.
much as how i see it – well shared!
