Coaldale’s annual Summer Fest is honouring both national values and local character this weekend.

Three days of music, food, family fun and hometown pride is happening Aug. 8 – 10 all around town, under the theme of “Proudly Canadian – Locally Driven”.

“The festival is a celebration of everything we love about our country… while spotlighting the people, businesses, and organizations that make Coaldale one of the most desirable places in Canada to live, work and play,” according to Clayton Varjassy, Community Experience Manager.

“In short, it’s about celebrating shared Canadian values – like community spirit and identity – while highlighting hometown heroes who bring Coaldale to life.”

Some crowd favourites will be returning this summer, including a movie at Millenium Park on Aug. 8 at 7:00pm, the candy parade starting at 11:00am on Aug. 9, followed by free swimming between 1:00pm and 5:00pm and a dazzling fireworks display at 10:20pm. The fun wraps up on Aug. 10 with a community faith service hosted in the Civic Square atrium at 3:00pm.

Varjassy adds that there will be some fresh, new attractions and an expanded program, as well.

“One is a partnership with Ride for Dad in the fight against prostate cancer that will bring The Road Hammers to head line Summer Fest this year, with Megan Dawson as the opening act. We also added a third indoor Family Zone at the Coaldale Fire Department which will host tours of the Firehall and our popular face painting and airbrush tattoo artists.”

A full schedule is available on the Coaldale Summer Fest website.

With the festival’s growing reputation and a thrilling entertainment line up, Varjassy is expecting attendance up into the thousands from both locals and visitors to southern Alberta.
