U of C seeking cattle producers

Researchers at the University of Calgaryβs Faculty of Veterinary Medicine are looking to conduct interviews with cattle producers to gain a better understanding of which veterinary services are valued most, and how accessible those services are.
The Alberta Beef Producers says Dr. John Remant and doctor of veterinary medicine student Reillee Duperron are looking for a few more cattle producers to take part in the research study that looks to better inform local veterinarians about the needs of beef producers in the province.
Participation requires approximately a one-hour one-on-one interview that will be conducted via Microsoft Teams, and requires no preparation. Participants will be asked on their experiences and insights, particularly in light of the current veterinarian shortage in rural Alberta.

Currently the U of C is also conducting research into mismatching in beef cattle and the impact of commingling on the outcomes of preconditioning beef calves.
Previously researchers have completed four studies in beef cattle research that include the role of microbiome of beef cattle in development of Bovine respiratory disease complex, as well as the development of genetic selection tools for traits that impact female longevity and sustainability.
Additionally, researchers have published papers exploring the risks and changes in feeding and drinking behaviour and provided more information on Digital Dermatitis, a well-known disease that has unique characteristics in beef cattle.
