By Lethbridge Herald Obituaries on August 14, 2025.

TAVERNINI, Sandro Sandro (Sandy) Tavernini It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear brother, uncle, and friend, Sandro Anthony Tavernini, on July 28, 2025, at the age of 72, after a short battle with cancer.
Sandro is survived by his brothers, Oscar (Rosemarie), Eric (Becky), John (Michele); sister, Laura Gallant-McNeil (John); numerous nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews. Sandro held a special place in his heart for his dear friend Linda-Lee McIver.
Sandro was predeceased by his parents, Livio and Rosa, and his brother George.
Sandro was born on June 12, 1953, in Dro, Trentino Province, Italy, the son of Livio and Rosa (Morandi) Tavernini. Shortly after Sandro’s birth, the family immigrated to Canada. Sandro grew up in Southern Alberta, graduating from Catholic Central High School in 1971. He studied journalism at Lethbridge Community College and later entered the banking industry.
Sandro worked in finance, including many years with First Calgary Financial, where he managed business loans for numerous clients in the Calgary area. Throughout his career, Sandro built a remarkable legacy in the banking world. His decades of experience and leadership earned him a reputation for excellence, integrity, and foresight.
Any activity Sandro undertook, he engaged in passionately. This was evident early in his life when he ran to a first-place finish in the 28-mile-long Miles for Millions fundraiser in 1969, while still in high school.
Sandro was an avid sports enthusiast, active in hockey, golf, and fly fishing at various times in his life. He was renowned for his wit, sense of humour, and his vast knowledge of sports trivia. He was very passionate about cooking, preparing meals for family, friends, co-workers, neighbours and the building staff where he
lived.
Sandro cherished his extended family. His love for everyone around him was
palpable, not just in words but in his actions. This same profound and loyal
concern extended to his circle of friends.
This man was a reliable and steadfast presence in our lives. He was a safe haven, a true friend, a steady presence, and a constant source of comfort. For all of us who knew and loved him, the world feels a bit quieter now without him.
He was very appreciative of the medical team at the Arthur Child Cancer Centre,
as well as the doctors and nurses at the Foothills Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthur J.E. Child Cancer Centre in Calgary via https://albertacancer.ca/donate/
A memorial service for Sandro will be held on Sunday, September 14th at 2:00 pm, at the Evan J. Strong Funeral Home, 3625 12 St NE, Calgary, AB
