Anyone wanting to run in the upcoming municipal election has until Monday at noon to file their nomination papers with the City Clerk.

Those interested in becoming candidates for any of the various positions available must first file a notice of intent, then the nomination papers, financial information and contact information with the Returning Officer at City Hall.

Each candidate must have their papers signed by eligible electors. For Mayoral candidates, the papers must be signed by 100 eligible electors, while for Councillor candidates, the papers must be signed by 50 eligible electors.

For school trustee candidates, the papers must be signed by five eligible electors. For Separate School Trustee candidates, those five eligible electors must be of Roman Catholic faith.

Each candidate should print their name as they wish it to appear on the ballot.

So far, according to the City of Lethbridge website, there are two candidates who have filed their nomination papers and are running for mayor, incumbent Blaine Hyggen and Michael Petrakis.

There are 19 city council candidates, 10 candidates for public school trustee, two candidates for separate school trustee Ward 1, six candidates for Ward 2, and one candidate for Ward 3 who have filed their nomination papers.

There is one candidate each for Wards 4 and 5 that have filed their notice of intent, but have not file their nomination papers.
