Local former University of Lethbridge student-athlete, Kacie Bosch was named the 2025 Young  Alumni Award winner by the institution this week.

“I was definitely shocked,” said Bosch.

“I feel like this is an award  not just for me but for everybody who’s put any time and effort into me and who I’ve become.”

The award sees  a younger alumnus be recognized for their accomplishments that have such excellence with them, and who are  inspirational leaders for U of L students and other alumni.

“I feel like giving back is one of the main components that I strive to do every day, whether that’s teaching , or coaching or just being in the community at local events,” said Bosch.

“I never really like to think of myself as a role model but in situations like that, it’s really cool to be able to be a role model for the youth and being able to go out and participate in local events. I feel like that aspect has been the most rewarding part and I suppose that mixed with the Olympic accolade (2024 Paris Summer Olympics fourth place finish with Canada’s 3×3  women’s basketball team) seems like it was a decent platform to be nominated for.”

Bosch transferred back home from Gonzaga University in 2016 and obtained  a Bachelor of Arts Degree in psychology in 2020 and Bachelor of Education degree in 2024.

“You can really feel the pride that people have in their community here,” said Bosch, on when she attended U of L.

“Being a local and coming to Lethbridge and having such a great experience in both basketball and academics, it really should show the local community that we have such an amazing institution here.”

She played with the U of L women’s basketball team during her tenure at the school.

“It  just goes to show how competitive USports really is and you have high level coaches like Dave Waknuk who will work hard to make you a better person and a better player,” said Bosch.

She placed fourth with Canada’s 3×3 women’s basketball team at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics in Paris, is a three-time  Women’s Series champion for FIBA 3×3 and has won two World Cup medals in the same sport.

Bosch is on sub-list for a couple of southern Alberta school divisions, is continuing to work as an assistant coach with the U of L women’s basketball team and training for basketball.

“It speaks to the volume of the strength of our university,” said Cyndi Crane, U of L Alumni Association president.

“It showcases that you can come here, you can get your education, make a  fantastic career and then still become an Olympian and a Canadian basketball player.”

Bosch will be officially recognized at an alumni achievement event on Oct. 17.
