PM’s adviser says India committed to co-operating with police investigations

By Canadian Press on September 25, 2025.

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney’s national security adviser says India has “absolutely” committed to co-operating and sharing information with Canadian police for ongoing investigations.

Nathalie Drouin told reporters outside the cabinet room on Parliament Hill today that she had a “very productive meeting” last week with Indian government officials.

Drouin travelled to India and met with Ajit Doval, New Delhi’s national security adviser, to talk about mutual security issues and transnational repression.

Bilateral relations have been strained since then-prime minister Justin Trudeau revealed in 2023 that Canada had evidence of Indian government involvement in the assassination of a Sikh activist on Canadian soil.

But signs of a thaw in the years-long diplomatic chill started to emerge in June, when Carney met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the G7 summit in Kananaskis.

India’s new high commissioner to Canada officially started his new job in Ottawa on Wednesday.
