McDavid says two-year contract extension shows commitment to winning with Oilers

By Canadian Press on October 7, 2025.

EDMONTON — Connor McDavid says his new two-year, US$25 million contract extension with the Edmonton Oilers reflects his commitment to winning — not chasing top dollar.

The deal keeps his salary cap hit unchanged at $12.5 million through the 2027-28 season.

McDavid says getting the contract done before the opener avoids any distraction as the Oilers chase the Stanley Cup.

Head coach Kris Knoblauch says the captain’s willingness to take a team-friendly deal shows his leadership.

The move gives Edmonton more flexibility to keep its core together.

The Oilers, who have lost back-to-back Stanley Cup finals to Florida, open the NHL season Wednesday night against the Calgary Flames.
