The Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation is encouraging community members who would like to make a donation, to reach out to them directly to find a way to provide their funding without having to rely on Canada Post as it continues its nation-wide strike.
“This is the time of year when many people send their holiday or year-end gifts by mail, and every day of delay affects how quickly donations can be put to work helping people in our community,” said Crystal Elliot, CRH Foundation CEO.Â
Nearly 40 per cent of seasonal donations normally arrive through the mail, and delivery interruptions mean vital funds for patient care, medical equipment, and hospital programs could be delayed.
“We’re also seeing the impact on our Christmas Tree Festival Gala invitations,” said Elliott. “If you normally attend, please go online today, and purchase your tickets instead of waiting for the mail.”
The festival gala is on Nov. 19 and the invitations were mailed before the strike, approximately 400 of them.Â
“In addition, our annual year-end Lights of Hope campaign is a direct mail appeal that raises critical funds for equipment, special projects, and programs that directly benefit patients and families at Chinook Regional Hospital and throughout Southern Alberta,” said Elliott.Â
With the strike disrupting these efforts, the foundation risks losing both attendance and essential year-end donations that allow it to support urgent healthcare needs in the region.Â
“This challenge is not unique to us,” said Elliott. “Many charities and non-profits across the province and country are facing the same barrier.”
She said that while the mail might be delayed, their local causes are very much open for business.Â
“Southern Albertans have always shown incredible heart where it matters most — this is another chance for all of us to step up and support the organizations that care for our communities,” said Elliott.Â
In the meantime, the foundation is encouraging donors to continue supporting it in the following ways:
• Donate online at www.crhfoundation.ca or www.bringingheartshome.ca
• Contact the Foundation to inform of your email and to receive information and receipts directly
• Donate gifts of securities via your financial advisor
• By phone at 403-388-6001
• In person at Chinook Regional Hospital
