Kodiak women’s soccer delivers strong road performances

The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks women’s soccer team have won three of their last four games after a pair of road wins over the weekend.

The Kodiak women opened the weekend with a 2-1 win at  Red Deer Polytechnic on Saturday.

Megan Morrison opened the scoring for the Kodiaks in the 42nd minute before RDP’s Sein Furuyama tied the game in the 52nd minute.

The Kodiaks got the go-ahead goal, which turned out to be the winner, in the 78th minute off the foot of Alaxis Bradford.

RDP outshot the Kodiaks 10-6 in the game, but Lethbridge got nine saves out Kara Jankowiak.

Lethbridge followed that effort with a 3-0 blanking of the Olds College Broncos on Sunday.

Morrison  scored in the second and 11th minute, while Sophie DeMarsh added a goal in the 68th minute for the Kodiaks.

Lethbridge is 5-2-1 on the season and are third place in the South Division with four games to go in the regular season.

As for the  Kodiak men,  they split their road games at RDP and Olds over the weekend.

They were edged 2-1 by RDP on Saturday.

Lethbridge’s Orien Domin opened the scoring in the 47th minute before Red Deer got two goals from Ajdin Sarcevic at the 65th and 85th minutes respectively to win the game.

Lethbridge rebounded with a 3-0 win on Sunday in Olds.

Ya-Sin Benbrink scored two goals to lead the way, while Lazlo Lorenzo added a goal for the Kodiaks .

The Kodiak men sit in third place with a 2-3-2 record.

Cross Country

The Kodiak cross country teams had strong finishes  to their regular seasons over the weekend in Camrose.

The men’s  team came in second place and was highlighted by Conner Van Den Hoek’s sixth place finish, as he ran the eight-kilometre loop in 29:25.

The women’s team placed fourth overall and was led by Katrina Michel’s 11th place finish with a time of 26:39 on the six-kilometre loop.

Both teams will now prepare for the ACAC championships on Oct. 25 in Grande Prairie.

Pronghorns

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men’s soccer team gained a tie and a victory in a pair of road games over the weekend.

The Horns started the weekend with a 3-0 win at Mount Royal University on Saturday.

Karim Bey, Kai Sakaguchi and Ben Gingras scored for the Horns.

Mount Royal outshot U of L 11-8.

The Horns goalkeeper had three saves to MRU’s two.

U of L tied 1-1 with the University of Calgary Dinos on Sunday.

Will Hughes scored for the Horns in the fourth minute and Milan Ponjevic replied for the Dinos in the 35th minute.

The Horn men’s  have a 4-3-4 record and sit in third in the Prairie Division.

The Horn women’s soccer team  were swept by the MacEwan Griffins University Griffins on home field by 1-0 and 2-1 scores on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Lisa Popp scored for the Horns on Sunday.

The Horn women’s team are 0-11-1 on the season.
