Already voted!!
I would state some things that have disturbed me during this city election and that is the mud slinging that has brought the names of dedicated, hard working people who are not campaigning, but have been used for political gains, or at least those mudslingers hoped it would, but instead it has angered many.
People who have given more than most in this community, who worked hard to make this city and their work environment and in some cases, healthcare patients were called into questioned, which in my mind bordered slander.
I heard 3 separate attacks coming from this one compaign against an encumbant and people I have talked to were also dismayed at these attacks.
What this shows is that this person is NOT a leader, because just showed that they do not hold some of the very basic characteristics of a leader.
If you think you can slander your way into getting a seat on Council, then you do not deserve that seat, because this outgoing Council got back to have good decorum and civility, and respect for fellow members, after the previous Council, which saw a couple who brought strife and conflict, openly to those meetings.
I applaud the Mayor for bringing back decorum and seeing members openly showing respect for one another!
Some attributes of a true leader, one who we want to lead:
1. Relationship builder – . . . building relationships with each other, with staff, and with the greater community. Good relationships and sound policy serve your community; spite or pandering seldom does. Disrespect, contempt, and personal attacks create unhealthy relationships that undermine sound governance.
2. A team player – . . . Being an effective team player means being able to advocate for one’s position while remaining curious and open minded about the position of others. It also means they work constructively with others without dominating the flow of information or ideas.
3. Financial acumen – . . . Policy makers need to understand basic financial information and be able to evaluate budgets and financial statements. They need to comprehend the long-term taxation and budget consequences of financial proposals and decisions. (Third Bridge comes to mind)
Also:
A team player works well with others and communicates effectively, valuing their colleagues’ opinions and ideas.
They understand that the team’s success is a shared responsibility and success, and are willing to make personal sacrifices for the good of the group.
This type of person is dependable and supportive, helping to foster a positive atmosphere and contributing to the overall project or task.
They are adaptable and open to feedback, understanding that their individual performance is critical to the team’s overall performance.
What happens if you get someone who is not a team player or true leader on Council?
It was clear that even one such individual, depending on his or her conduct, could have a negative impact on the manager and the organization.
Such behaviors can have these negative consequences:
• Being disruptive to the work of a council or board, including the effectiveness of public meetings.
• Causing elected officials and organization to lose the confidence of the public.
• Discouraging other members of the public to serve as elected officials or in other capacities.
• Hurting the morale of the staff, including the manager, and making it more difficult to have a highly effective organization and possibly even to attract and retain staff.

I have tried to enlighten those who haven’t voted yet to decide who you think would be a true leader and team player, without naming names!
I remember one dispute in an ‘open’ Council meeting several years ago, where one disruptive Councilor attacked two members who were bringing our concerns forward to Council in what I can only call a once sided ‘dogfight’ because the two Councilors under attack, acted professionally and as per Council decorum!
Vote for whomever you want, but VOTE!
This notice of candidates videos is too late for those of us who took advantage of early polls and have already voted. I have repeatedly asked the Herald to ask each candidate relevant and specific questions relating to their position on current events in Lethbridge and Alberta. Then publish their responses so voters could judge which candidate suits their views. I never got even a thanks but no thanks from the Herald which tells me u aren’t a true news source with journalists that want their readers to be informed. Unfortunately ur the only paper in town. No, I purposely left off the prefex “news”.
