WHL roundup: Anderson scores in OT, Hurricanes knock off Hitmen 7-6

LETHBRIDGE — Kai Anderson scored with 21 seconds left in overtime to lift the Lethbridge Hurricanes to a 7-6 Western Hockey League victory over the visiting Calgary Hitmen on Friday.

Luke Cozens scored twice for the Hurricanes (3-8-0-1), while Logan Wormald had a goal and three assists. Shane Smith, Jack Toogood and Gavin Lesiuk also scored.

Brandon Gorzynski scored twice for the Hitmen (4-4-0-0), while Axel Hurtig, Andrei Molgachev, Landon Amrhein and Koy Funk added singles.

The Hitmen outshot the Hurricanes 36-32 and led 4-1 after the first period and 6-3 heading into the third.

The Hitmen were 1-for-3 on the power play, while the Hurricanes went 0-for-3 with the man advantage.

RED DEER, Alta. — Reed Brown’s goal at 19:32 of the third period snapped a 1-1 tie and lifted the visiting Portland Winterhawks to a 3-1 win over the Red Deer Rebels.

Nathan Brown and Ryan Miller also scored for the Winterhawks (5-5-0-0), who led 1-0 after the first period but were tied 1-1 heading into the third.

Landon MacSwain scored for the Rebels (2-7-0-0), who outshot the visitors 31-28.

Netminder Ondrej Stebetak stopped 30 of 31 shots for the Winterhawks, while Chase Wutzke stopped 25 of 27 shots for the Rebels.

GIANTS 5 WILD 2

LANGLEY, B.C. — Adam Titlbach and Brett Olson each scored twice as the Vancouver Giants beat the visiting Wenatchee Wild 5-2.

Aaron Obobaifo also scored for the Giants (4-6-0-0), who were outshot 39-37 at Langley Events Centre.

Zane Saab and Mason Kraft scored for the Wild (1-5-1-1), who trailed 3-1 after the first period and 4-2 heading into the third.

The Giants went 1-for-6 on the power play, while the Wild were 0-for-4.

Giants netminder Burke Hood stopped 35 of 37 shots, while Tobias Tvrznik stopped 30 of 34 for the Wild.

WARRIORS 6 BLADES 2

SASKATOON, Sask. — Lynden Lakovic scored twice, Landen McFadden and Riley Thorpe each had two assists, and the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors beat the Saskatoon Blades 6-2.

William Degagne, Gage Nagel, Nolan Paquette and Kash Andresen also scored for the Warriors (5-4-1-0).

Jack Kachkowski and Cooper Williams scored for the Blades (7-3-0-0), who outshot the visitors 33-30.

The Warriors went 1-for-3 on the power play, while the Blades went 0-for-2.

RAIDERS 6 PATS 5

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — Evan Smith and Aiden Oiring each had two goals as the Prince Albert Raiders edged the visiting Regina Pats 6-5.

Jonah Sivertson and Owen Corkish also scored for the Raiders (7-0-1-0), who led 3-0 after the first period and 5-1 heading into the third.

Keets Fawcett scored twice for the Pats (1-6-1-0), while Jace Egland, Ephtam McNutt and Mathis Paull netted singles.

The Raiders outshot the Pats 39-31.

SILVERTIPS 5 VEES 2

PENTICTON, B.C. — Rylan Pearce scored the winning goal early in the second period as the visiting Everett Silvertips knocked off the Penticton Vees 5-2.

Nolan Caffey, Shea Busch, Carter Bear and Nolan Chastko also scored for the Silvertips (8-0-1-0).

Diego Johnson and Brittan Alstead scored for the Vees (5-3-1-1), who trailed 2-0 after the first period and 4-0 heading into the third.

The Silvertips outshot the Vees 44-27.

COUGARS 5 THUNDERBIRDS 0

SEATTLE, Wash. — Kooper Gizowski scored three goals and goaltender Joshua Ravensbergen stopped 36 shots as the visiting Prince George Cougars blanked the Seattle Thunderbirds 5-0.

Brock Souch and Aiden Foster also scored for the Cougars (6-2-0-0), who went 1-for-3 on the power play.

Netminder Grayson Malinoski stopped 40 of 45 shots for the T-Birds 3-6-0-0).
