Pats double up Hurricanes

The Lethbridge Hurricanes began their three-game road trip through the East Division with a 6-3 loss at the hands of the Regina Pats on Wednesday night.

Caden Brown opened the scoring in the game when he redirected a pass by Canes goalie Koen Cleaver to make it 1-0 Pats1:14 into the game.

Ellis Mieyette and Julien Maze notched assists.

Luke Cozens tied the game at one 3:37 into the first when he tracked the loose puck and  deposited it into an empty net.

Easton Daneault and Grady Pichette assisted on Cozens’ seventh goal of the year.

Jace Egland made the score 2-1 for the Pats when he motored down the right wing and wristed the puck passed Cleaver for his second goal of the year from Reese Hamilton with 1:29 to go in the opening frame.

Brown redirected in his second goal of the night on the powerplay with 11 seconds to go in the first period to give the Pats a 3-1 lead.

Maze and Emphram McNutt assisted on Brown’s goal.

Tyden Lafournaise got the Canes to within a goal when his quick one-timer in tight found the back of the net 2:17 into the second period.

Kade Duell and Matteo Fabrizi assisted on Lafournaise’s second goal of the season.

Maze then deposited a rebound passed Cleaver at the 9:12  mark of the second period  from Brown and Ellis Mieyette to double the Pats lead to 4-2.

Cohen Klassen chipped the puck over Cleaver into the top corner 14:40 into the second period on the powerplay to give Regina a 5-2 lead.

McNutt and Brown assisted on Klassen’s goal.

Cozens made the score 5-3 when he one-timed in a nice pass from  Daneault 5:23 into the third period.

Keets Fawcett solidified the Pats win with an empty-net goal 18:07 into the third period.

Regina outshot Lethbridge 34-16 and went 2-for-4 on the powerplay.

Lethbridge continue the road trip against the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night.
