WALLOCHA, Editha EDITHA WALLOCHA 1923 ~ 2025 Mrs. Editha “Edith” Wallocha of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Hans Wallocha, passed away peacefully at Edith Cavell Care Centre on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at the age of 102 years.
Editha was born in Berlin Germany on the 31st of July 1923 to parents Valerian and Angelika Deja. Along with her five sisters, she was raised during the depression era of Europe and experienced the hardships of the 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s. Following the war, she worked as a secretary for Caritas Austria, a Roman Catholic charitable organization. After meeting her future husband Hans, she moved to Canada in 1960 where he had already immigrated to and established himself. They were married shortly thereafter, and had three sons, Martin, Edmund, and Norbert.
Editha will be known for her total dedication to family. She was the caregiver to her eldest son Martin, who had Down Syndrome, and poured her life and soul into making sure he had the best life possible until his passing at age 41. It was only due to Editha’s love and devotion that Martin lived for so long. She will also be remembered for her acumen as the brains and administrative force behind the family business that she and Hans had established. She was considered to be a 9th degree black-belt in crossword puzzles, an avid gardener, and like any good “Oma” would do, took extra pride in spoiling her grand-children with kindness and chocolates.
As a devout and faithful Roman Catholic, she will be welcomed into heaven and reunited with the loved ones that have passed before her.
Editha is survived by her sons Edmund and Norbert (Katherine), and two grandchildren Matthew and Michaela. Besides her husband Hans, she was pre-deceased by her mother and father Angelika and Valerian, and sisters Alexa, Erika, Hedwig, Ursal (Editha’s twin), and Victoria.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects between 6:00pm and 8:00pm on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am on Friday, October 31, 2025 at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 – 12 Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta. Interment to follow in the Mountain View Cemetery.
