The Green Acres Foundation is bringing its first facility to the west side of the city as part of a multi-developer project taking place in The Crossings.

Dawna Coslovi, CEO of the Green Acres Foundation, said it was important for them to expand into the West side of the city due to its growth. She added this will be their 24th facility to open its doors to seniors in southern Alberta and 17th within the city.

“This will be for independent seniors, and it will feature 54 apartments, with a rooftop patio and underground parking,” said Coslovi.

She said the land was purchased couple of years ago, as they began planning their expansion onto the west side of the city.

“The convenience of that site is something that will make the residents lives easier, there is a grocery store across the street, a pharmacy, it’s close to the YMCA, the library, a park, restaurants,” said Coslovi.

She said this site takes care of their daily necessities along with recreational needs, learning, church, and fitness within walking distance.

“There is also so many people living on the west side that may want to have their older family members closer to them, that this is going to be a great option for them,” said Coslovi.

She said this will allow families to be closer and not have to travel to the other side of the city to be able to visit their loved ones, making it more convenient for everyone.

Since the location of the new facility will be close to high the two westside high schools and relatively close to the new elementary school being built right now, Coslovi said this will be helpful when it comes to establishing partnerships with schools to help seniors engage in intergenerational activities.

“Intergenerational relationships are very important not only for the seniors, but also for the students as some students may not have their grandparents close by,” said Coslovi.

When talking about the multi-developer project and the Green Acres Foundation role within it, Coslovi said it was important for them to connect and work alongside with Cedar Ridge Homes and Sherwood Developments to develop the area, because it is something that the West side of Lethbridge needs.

“This is a big development and you always do better as a team, so we have been able to work together and create something that compliments each other,” said Coslovi. “We didn’t want to build something that was going to clash with what they are doing.”

Construction is set to begin in spring 2026 and Coslovi said the facility will feature one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments, with two elevators for the four-storey building.
