Glow Lethbridge is back for its third year to kick off the holiday season, this time with a fairy tale theme at the Lethbridge Trade & Convention Centre.

Paul Kingsmith, director of event development for Excite Lethbridge shared that the lights are on, the bouncy castles are inflated, Santa and Mrs. Clause are waiting, and the train is ready to take everyone for a spin.

“We’re going to run right through to New Year’s Eve, and we have just a tremendous show this year. So happy with the way is come together,” said Kingsmith.

He said the way the layout works this year makes it feel like the first time visiting, even to those who have attended the event before.

“We have a fairy tale theme this year which we’re really excited about. And I think that it just kind of brings an entertainment value for the whole family,” said Kingsmith.

He said for the last couple of years, the community has responded very well to Glow Lethbridge, and they are anticipating to see that once again.

“When we opened this building, this was one of the first events that we targeted because it’s something that the city didn’t have a space to host prior to this building being open.”

The new building provided an opportunity to bring the indoor light festival to the city and generate excitement around the holiday season.

“Reception through the first two years has been outstanding, we’ve seen really great crowds,” said Kingsmith. “The reception has gone up year over year, and we have now become part of those holiday traditions, getting people who are coming back year over year,” said Kingsmith.

He said at the same time they continue to uncover new audiences by trying to do things a bit different every year.

“We are also getting more involved with community groups. It’s something that we started during Whoop-Up Days with our community booth program, and it’s something that we’re now rolling into Glow.”

He said most nights they are offering free space to community groups, charities, not-for-profit organizations to interact with the audience that attends Glow.

“We also have some really cool events that are spinoffs. We have the Big Truck Showcase, which is done in conjunction with Lethbridge Family Services.”

That will take place in December, where lighted trucks are coming to the grounds, and they are raising donations for the Angel Tree campaign.

“We’re also partnering with the Lethbridge Hurricanes on a special day where the Hurricanes are going to be out here interacting with the community,” said Kingsmith.

Beyond that, it is an expansion of some of the theme nights and some of the one-off nights for adults to enjoy.

“Last year we tried a glow after dark event that went off great. It was a dueling pianos and this year we’re bringing that one back. We’re also doing a glow after dark comedy night this year, which is super exciting.”

Another event that went well last year and s being elevated this year is the New Year’s Eve party.

“The exhibition did for a number of years did a New Year’s Eve family party and it’s a tradition that we wanted to bring back, so we brought it back last year it went really well,” said Kingsmith.

He said this year it will be even bigger, with handouts for the kids when they come in, activities, a DJ dance party and a 8:00 p.m. countdown to midnight.

“That New Year’s Eve experience will end this whole show. Through this whole seven week run, we’re going to have all kinds of exciting things to tailor your experience to.”
