Anderson lifts Canes over Rockets

Kai Anderson scored with 46 seconds to go in overtime to lift the Lethbridge Hurricanes to a 5-4 win over the Kelowna Rockets on Friday night at Prospera Place.

Owen Berge and Nathan Maloney assisted on the overtime winner.

Easton Daneault scored his first of the season from Maloney halfway through the opening period to give the Canes a 1-0 lead.

Kelowna tied the game 13:44 into the first period when Tomas Poletin found the back of the net on the powerplay.

Carson Wetsch and Mazden Leslie assisted on Poletin’s goal.

Berge gave the Canes a 2-1 lead just over two minutes later with his fifth of the season from Enzo DiDomenicantonio and newly acquired Kayden Longley.

Kelowna came out firing in the second period with two goals in under four minutes to take a 3-2 lead.

First it was Tij Iginla scoring 58 seconds into the second period from former Canes Shane Smith and Will Sharpe.

Then it was Connor Pankratz scoring  at the 3:44 mark from Rowan Guest and Jaxon Kehrig.

Canes captain Logan Wormald tied the game 12:47 into the second period with his 12th of the season from Daneault and Brayden Smith.

Poletin scored his second powerplay goal of the game from Iginla and Smith  with just over two minutes left in the middle frame to give Kelowna a 4-3 lead going into the second intermission.

Will Scott scored his first of the season 14:07 into the third period to tie the game at four and send the game into overtime.

Longley and Carsen Adair assisted on Scott’s goal.

Kelowna outshot Lethbridge 36-26 in the game.

Lethbridge went 0-for-3 while Kelowna went 2-for-3 on the powerplay.

Lethbridge is 2-0 to start the B.C. Division road trip and visit the Kamloops Blazers tonight at 7 p.m.
